Turnirska knjiga Gašperja Lambergerja

As you may already know, I have a great interest in medieval Europe, and to add, the last 3-4 years, I've been researching into Slovenian medieval period. To my surprise, the medieval history of Slovenia is very colourful, with characters bigger than life recorded in the annals of Slovenian history.

Petra Majdič wins Bronze for Slovenija !!!

finish line

Petra Majdič wins Bronze for Slovenija at the individual sprint classic in cross-country skiing on Wednesday.  Even more impressive was the fact she fought through excruciating pain from breaking some ribs from an awful fall during training the previous day.   Bravo Petra !!!

Is soccer part of Slovenian culture?

The world's biggest sporting event is taking place and we in Canada are hardly aware of it.  I am talking about FIFA World Cup soccer competitions.  My interest increased after joining some Slovenians in a sports bar as we watched Slovenia beating Russia in a crucial game.  This meant that Slovenia has advanced to the next round.   Slovenia is now in Group C, together with England, Algeria and the U.S.  As I watched the game, played in Maribor, I could see the enthusiasm that Slovenians displayed during and after the game, both in the sports bar and i

Slovenian Heraldry

The most frequently get two questions I get when I mention "Slovenian Heraldry". What is heraldry? There is Slovenian heraldry? This may sound completely incongruent with respect to an earlier subject on "Slovenian Heritage".  In general, most Slovenians (both within Slovenia and external) have little or no idea about the history of Slovenian heraldry.  Obviously, there isn't much in terms of specifically "Slovenian heraldry", but the region of Slovenia for hundreds of years has enjoyed quite a colourful and long history of heraldry.
