Practice the Sounds of Slovenian

Practice saying aloud the Slovenian phrases or sentences in Column 1.  Remember the underscores indicate stressed syllables.  Column 2 gives the English for each phrase or sentence.

1. Kje je mama?
Where is mother?

Naša šola je nova.
Our school is new.
3.
Prosim, daj mi papir.
Please, give me (the, some) paper.

To je moja sestra.
This is my sister.
5.
Tukaj je pismo.
Here is (the) letter.
6.
Hvala gospod.
Thank you, sir.
7.
Hrana je dobra.
(The) food is good.
8.
Hiša je bela.
(The) house is white.
9.
Voda je topla.
(The) water is warm.
10.
Ana je lepa.
Anna is beautiful.
11.
Ura je zlata.
(The) watch is gold.
12.
Ura je osem.
It is eight o'clock.  Literally, "(The) hour is eight."
13.
Mama je doma.
Mother is (at) home.
14.
Glava me boli.
I have a headache.  Literally, "(The) head hurts me."
15.
Danes je nedelja.
Today is Sunday.

2. Dober dan, ata! Good day (Good afternoon), father!
3. Dober večer, gospa! Good evening, madame!

5, Nasvidenje, stric! So long (I'll be seeing you), uncle!
6, Zbogom, teta! Good-bye (lit. With God), aunt!
7, Prosim, mama! Please, mother.
8, Hvala, stara mama! Thank you, grandma!
9, Kako ste? How are you?
10, Hvala, dobro. Thank you, well.

NOTES:

Bracketed words in the English column are needed to complete the English sentences.  Equivalnet words are not usually present in the corresponding Slovenian sentences.
